STUDENT TESTIMONIALS

ETCHING CLASS STUDENTS

Etching is a magical (and highly addictive) artistic process, which Noeleen teaches with passion, patience and accomplished skill. I would highly recommend her classes, no matter your skill level or experience. Her small classes allows for each student to receive personalised input and assistance with various projects and techniques. Her studio is inspirational, welcoming and equipped with all the tools needed for a fun and informative etching and printmaking experience.

I had not previously done much in the way of creative artistry, but when I heard about Noeleen's etching classes I was immediately interested. With good reason! It is a discipline that requires creativity and good technical skills of the processes, and Noeleen has an incredible knowledge of both. She is a superb teacher and an inspiration. I look forward to every class and really love the work I am producing.

Being a ceramicist, I wanted to do something to expand my knowledge of art and found the opportunity in etching classes with Noeleen. It was a big decision at first as I have to drive from Somerset West to Kommetjie. A decision that I will never regret. I find the learning experience amazing. Noeleen is inspiring and passionate about her subject. The environment lends itself to tranquility and peacefulness, complimented with Noeleen's personal style. She is a wonderful teacher that inspires new ideas and creativity. I can highly recommend Noeleen to any aspiring artist that wants to expand their knowledge about the wonderful world of etching.

While Noeleen teaches intaglio to her students she also understands and supports each individual student in telling their creative story, meeting them at their own level with gentleness and patience, providing the stability while we all attempt turning metal into ‘gold’ in a process that can only be described as, ‘a roller coaster ride in the art of alchemy’.

WORKSHOP STUDENTS

I have been fortunate to always find the perfect art teacher. Noeleen is one of them. The moment I walked into her inviting art space, I thought YES! I felt inspired, in awe and knew I would learn stacks. She did not disappoint. Her enthusiasm and zest to share her knowledge so freely, goes beyond expectations. Noeleen is a master of her craft and makes what is rather complicated, logical. I’ve enjoyed every minute of my training with her.

Your joy/love for sharing your expertise is a winner! I honestly would not know what to add or take away. We had ample time to work and print. You reminded us about time... Personally I wish for another day, but that would be selfish 🙂 I think time wise and days are perfect… We were a great group and everyone shared their input... I could not have asked for any better. Maybe the groups should regroup for a one-day workshop a month/2 months later to share and make another print. And then you host an exhibition year end of all the workshops! Seriously now, I thoroughly enjoyed every moment!

overall impression: very satisfying. You are a good teacher and facilitator. positives: well structured, good demos, lovely shared studio space, easy atmosphere, good food, value for money. negatives: my own brain – getting befuddled and creating a ‘working under pressure in a workshop’ situation when there needn’t be! guidance: timeous, constructive, positive, awareness of ability, capability, enabling creativity, support preferred length of workshop (days/hours): Having worked slowly as a beginner for the first session and then explored using the roller after lunch, which involved starting a ‘new’ depiction/image, I would have benefitted from another session. I felt I hadn’t quite resolved my results. For some reason I laboured my image instead of letting them just be! I know you gave us the choice to explore the roller, but I would have preferred one day of each method. All of the above very dependant on personal ability and pace.

As always, I thoroughly enjoyed myself at your workshop. The group of participants had a positive energy, your new space was much more roomy, and there was time and place for everyone and their different needs. I found the 2 days perfect for me, although 3 days would also work – although I would have to drive in for those as I won’t be able to stay away that long from home 🙂 The timing from 9H30 also worked – it meant less rushing to get there. And your food was yummy. I can’t really think of anything negative, except for a slight “heat” problem where I sat, but that got sorted by moving to Hannelie’s place. I hope your workshops continue growing like this. You really are an exceptionally organised and good teacher. I again found I learned new and interesting techniques, and am chomping at the bit to try them out again.
